Opposition Cannot Forget About Georgian Ocean Shipping Company
The noise caused by the privatization of the Georgian Ocean Shipping Company has not eased even after the opening of bids. The Right-wing Opposition thinks that the bidding process brings many questions.
MP Davit Saganelidze cannot hide his dissatisfaction, saying, “The only thing that the public has seen is that the envelopes have been opened, but nobody except the Prime Minister knows what is inside them.” He blames the government for the opacity of the privatization process, because “Neither society nor the opposition have participated in this process.” Saganelidze believes that “Zurab Zhvania should be ashamed of this bidding process, but instead he has appeared with a smiling face, making impudent statements.”
The member of the Right-wing Opposition remembers that a few weeks ago the Prime Minister stated that the 107 million Dollars offered by the Greenoak Group was satisfactory for the state, and it would have been unwise to reject this bid. Regarding this statement, Saganelidze states that the investors participating in these processes initially said they were ready to pay larger sums (Marine Capital - 130 million Dollars; Shorell Holding – 151 million Dollars), but after meeting with the Prime Minister, they changed their minds and Zhvania stated the highest bid was 117 million Dollars.
Saganelidze recalls the recent past and states that the formation of a memorandum with the Greenoak Group was a criminal mistake because their low bid has now become the reference point for other companies.
But Saganelidze cannot explain why the government of Georgia might be interested in selling the privatization objects cheaply, or why it seems so interested in selling the Georgian Ocean Shipping Company to the company of Ian Nielsen – the Greenoak Group.
According to Saganelidze’s statement, the Right-wing Opposition is also dissatisfied with the fact that: “The Government is interested in selling only the profitable companies and it does not care about the unprofitable ones.”
Debate about the Georgian Ocean Shipping Company has brought the Right-wing Opposition to the conclusion that “This kind of government must retire.”
